Columbus Crew ended a three-game winless streak with a 2-1 victory over Atlanta United on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the 14th round of Major League Soccer (MLS) Eastern Conference action. Derrick Burckley Etienne Jr. provided the assist.
After a draw and two defeats in the league, the yellow and black club went back to the front by dominating Atalanta United on its ground (2-1). The match was played this Saturday, May 28, as part of the fourteenth day of the Major League Soccer, Eastern Conference, regular season. The difference was made in the first half when Jonathan Mensah headed in a corner kick from Pedro Miguel Martins Santos in the very first minute of the match (0-1, 1′), then Erik Hurtado, on a pass from more than 60 meters from Derrick Etienne Jr, mystified his opponent and then placed a shot out of reach of the keeper (0-2, 45′). Atlanta United woke up very late in the game and reduced the score in the extra time by Dom Dwyer (1-2, 91′).
After 13 games and one game in hand, Caleb Porter’s men are 7th with 16 points, the same number of points as the 8th placed team Atalanta United, who also have a game in hand.
