In the tenth final of the Spanish Super Cup, held on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the King Abdullah Stadium in Jeddah, FC Barcelona delivered a crushing defeat to their arch-rivals Real Madrid (5-2), highlighted by a brace from Brazilian captain Raphinha Diaz and an assist for Baldé.
The score at halftime was already decisive: 4-1.
Despite an early opener from Real Madrid’s French striker Kylian Mbappé in the 4th minute, Barcelona quickly leveled the score through a brilliant solo effort by winger Lamine Yamal. Shortly after, during another Blaugrana attack, Eduardo Camavinga fouled Gavi in the penalty area. Although referee Gil Manzano initially did not blow the whistle, a VAR review led to the awarding of a penalty to Barcelona, which Robert Lewandowski calmly converted to give the Catalans the lead.
Real Madrid then collapsed, conceding two more goals before halftime. Half-time: 4-1.
In the second half, Madrid conceded a fifth goal, with Raphinha securing his second of the match. Despite multiple substitutions by Carlo Ancelotti, Los Merengues were unable to mount a comeback.
The dismissal of Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, following a foul on Kylian Mbappé outside the box, offered a glimmer of hope for Real Madrid. However, the resulting direct free-kick only allowed Rodrygo Goes to narrow the deficit in the final quarter of an hour.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, Hans-Dieter Flick’s team held firm and maintained their three-goal advantage until the final whistle, which came after 8 minutes of added time.
With this resounding victory, FC Barcelona claimed their fifteenth Spanish Super Cup.
Over the course of two consecutive Clásicos played within four months, Carlo Ancelotti’s side conceded a total of nine goals against a dominant Barça.
