The home side started the game with an early goal from Chase Andrew Boone (2′, 1-0) before young Sergio Rivas, late in the first half, tied the game (40′, 1-1).

After the break, both teams pushed to take the lead but failed to do so in a very competitive game. Thus, the score acquired in the first half remains the same as the final result of the game. Monterrey won the first draw in its history against New Mexico United .
