In the 34th and final day of the Portuguese Segunda Liga on Sunday, Casa Pia confirmed their promotion to the top flight with a 5-1 victory over Leixoes Sport Club. The Lisbon-based club will rediscover the Portuguese soccer elite next season, 83 years later.
Without Carnejy Antoine on Sunday, Felipe Martins’ team kept its second place, synonymous with direct access to the top flight, by winning 5-1 away from home against Leixoes Sport Club, thus signing its return to the first division, 83 years after its last and only appearance in the Portuguese soccer league.
In order to reach the upper echelon, against the uninspired players of Leixoes SC, Casa Pia won the match that everyone was waiting for thanks to goals from Zach Muscat ( 10′ ) , João André Ribeiro Vieira (12′ ) , Jota Silva ( 16′ , 39′ ) and Derick Theodoro Santos Poloni (93′ ). Leo Bolgado scored the only goal for the hosts (61′).
With 68 points, Casa Pia finished second and climbed to the first division. The Blacks had not played in the Portuguese D1 since the 1938-1939 season, when the team finished in the last place of the ranking. Carnejy Antoine, who arrived in January 2022, has scored 4 goals in 14 games this season and will play for the first time in his career in the D1.
