The semifinals for the Colorado high school state basketball tournaments in Classes 5A and 4A are underway with the girls tipping things off Thursday and the boys playing Friday. The Denver Post will be at the Denver Coliseum covering all of the action this weekend, including Saturday’s championship games.

No. 1 Valor Christian 65, No. 5 Arapahoe 49

The 6-foot-3 senior Valor Christian center dropped 28 points on Thursday night to lift the Eagles to the Class 5A title game. No. 1 Valor overcame an early deficit to roll 65-49 over No. 5 Arapahoe inside the Denver Coliseum.

The defending 5A champion Eagles (23-3) will play for a repeat state title Saturday. Valor meets the winner of Grandview and Highlands Ranch. A Wolves victory would provide a marquee matchup in the title game — Beers, an Oregon State signee, against Grandview center Lauren Betts, a Stanford signee.

They are both senior McDonald’s All-Americans and considered five-star recruiting prospects.

No. 3 Grandview 65, No. 2 Highlands Ranch 51

Powered by sisterly towers Lauren and Sienna Betts, Grandview set the tone early and never relinquished control in a 65-51 victory over Highlands Ranch in the Class 5A Final Four.

Lauren, the 6-foot-7 top recruit in the nation in the Class of 2022 and a Stanford pledge, posted a double-double (game-high 22 points, 18 rebounds). Sienna, a 6-foot-3 freshman, added 11 points. And with the Betts sisters controlling the lane, Santa Clara commit Marya Hudgins fueled the wire-to-wire win with 21 points.
