Through a statement issued on Monday, the former world number one Naomi Osaka (currently 38th) announced that she will not play the tournament in Rome due to an Achilles tendon injury. The player wants to reach Roland Garros in good conditions.

In order to prepare for the French Open, which is coming up in 15 days, the Haitian-Japanese player, suffering from an Achilles tendon injury, decided to abandon the WTA 1000 in Rome, which is played on clay, in order to be at 100% of her capacities at the French Open (May 22 – June 5).

Injured during the tournament in Madrid where she was eliminated in the second round by the Spanish Sara Sorribes, Naomi Osaka is very careful, not wanting to take too many risks before the French Open. She was replaced by the Spanish Nurria Parrizas, 51st world.
