Looking back, we can highlight the absence of some great African formations that will not go to Qatar for the 22nd edition of the World Cup.

We must start with Algeria, nicknamed “the Desert Fennecs”. It has already participated in 4 World Cup finals (1982, 1986, 2010, 2014). Moreover, it is the first African nation to have participated in two final phases in a row. Riyad Marhez of Manchester City and Ali Bennacer of AC Milan are the 2 star players of this formation.

The Ivory Coast, nicknamed “the Elephants”, has very good soccer players such as Serge Aurier (Villareal in Spain), Eric Bailly (Manchester United), Nicolas Pepe (Arsenal) and Sebastien Haller, the current second highest scorer in the Champions League with 11 goals.

Egypt, nicknamed “the Pharaohs”, of Mohammed Salah, star striker of Liverpool, is the first African team to have participated in a World Cup finals in 1934 in Italy, and in 1990 again in Italian land. Egypt was also present in 2018 in Russia, each time eliminated in the first round.

There is also Nigeria commonly called the “super eagles”, Olympic champion in 1996 in the United States by defeating Brazil and Argentina, the 2 biggest figures of South American soccer during these games.

A country with great soccer players like Augustine Jay Jay Okocha, Daniel Amokachi, Sunday Oliseh, Tijani Babangida, Nwanko Kanu to name but a few. Today, Nigerian soccer can still count on this generation (Victor Osimhen of SsNapoli, Kelechi Iheanacho of Leicester City, Alex Iwobi of Everton and William Troost-Ekong of Watford United).
