Favourite on paper, England has obtained its qualification for the quarterfinals of the Qatari World Cup where it will face France. The Three Lions won against Senegal with a score of three goals to nil on Sunday at the Al Bayt Stadium.
At the end of a match where each team had its strong time and domination, Gareth Southgate’s players showed character and efficiency to win. Jordan Henderson showed the way to his partners by opening the score in the 38th minute on a good cross back from Jude Bellingham (38′, 1-0). The Liverpool Reds midfielder scored his third goal in 73 appearances. Well served by Phil Foden before the break, Harry Kane doubled the score (45+3) to score his first goal in this World Cup and his 11th goal in a major tournament with England, surpassing Gary Lineker (10).
In the second half, the Arsenal player Bukayo Saka, shortly before the hour, killed all suspense by bringing the score to three to zero (57′). The Senegalese tried everything to save their honor and the final whistle of the referee came to put an end to their elimination.
In the quarterfinals, the finalist of the last Euro (England) will face the defending champion team (France) for a place in the semifinals on Saturday, December 10 at 2 pm.
