FC Forge closed the seventeenth day of the Canadian Premier League on Wednesday night with a valuable 2-1 victory over Cavalry and took the top spot in the standings thanks to a better goal difference. Canadian-Haitian striker Woobens Pacius and Haitian international defender Garven-Michée Metusala were both starters for Forge. On the other side, Mikael Gabriel Cantave entered the game shortly after the last 15 minutes.
Forge’s short but very valuable away win at ATCO Stadium (2-1) in the closing match of the seventeenth day of the Canadian Premier League. However, not everything was fair for Forge, who were trailing 1-0 when Joe Mason headed in a corner kick from Alli Musse in the first minute of play (1-0). Bobby Smyrniotis’s men then broke away on the scoreboard thanks to the strong man of the moment Woobens Pacius (37’1-1) and Kyle Edward Bekker’s volley (49′, 1-2) giving the Hamilton-based club the win. The fourth consecutive one.
Haitian international midfielder Mikael Gabriel Cantave, who entered the game in the 76th minute, was unable to break the deadlock in his league debut for FC Cavalry.
This result allows FC Forge to overtake its opponent of the evening (28 points) and thus occupies the first place in the standings with 29 points ex aequo with Atletico of Ottawa and Pacific FC respectively 2nd and 3rd. After 3 consecutive defeats, FC Cavalry is relegated to the 4th place, only one point from the top three.
On the next day, FC Forge will travel to Ottawa to face Atlético, one of the title contenders, on Sunday, July 31st at 7pm.
