The duel for the first place in Group B, counting for the last phase of the Indonesia 2023 World Cup qualifiers, between the Haitian U20 soccer team and Mexico ended on Thursday night with a scoreless draw (0-0), at the Olimpico Metropolitano stadium in San Pedro Sula (Honduras). Both teams finish the group stage undefeated and qualify for the round of 16.
For its last game in Group B of the CONCACAF U20 Championship, qualifying for the World Cup Indonesia 2023 and the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, the game between Haiti and Mexico ended without a goal scored. The small grenadiers made a great game defensively to save the point of the draw (0-0). And for this match at the top, the stake was simply the first place, because the two teams had already obtained their qualifying ticket for the eighth.
Facing a very aggressive Mexican team from the beginning of the game, Angelo Jean-Baptiste’s team played the game they needed to counteract the attacks of the opponents even if they could have conceded several times the opening of the score as the goal refused by the referee for an offside position at the 36th minute of the game. Half-time (0-0).
In the second half, the little grenadiers took the game to their account and found the post twice (63′, 67′) notably with Watz Landy Leazard and Steevenson Jeudy. It is thus on this scoreless draw that the two formations separated. A draw that does not bother anyone because the two protagonists keep their respective places in the ranking. Mexico remains first with 7 points without conceding a goal, Haiti validates its second place with 5 points.
In the eighth final, the little grenadiers will play against Jamaica on Sunday, June 26 at 6:00 am Pm still at the Olimpico Metropolitano Stadium in San Pedro Sula.
