The New Mexico United team took a good point on Saturday against Detroit City, 2-2, in a match counting for the twenty-second day of the United Soccer League (2-2). The Haitian midfielder Carl-Fred Sainté did not have his name on the score sheet.
After 25 minutes of play, the New Mexico team conceded a penalty, well executed by Maxi Rodriguez to unlock the scoreboard (25′,1-0). Five minutes later, Christopher Wehan put the two teams back on level terms with a perfectly executed direct free kick. 1-1 at the break!
After the break, both teams put pressure on each other to take the lead. And finally, the home team got the better of Teklan Terrence Wynne, who was set up by Connor Rutz, one minute after the hour mark (61′,2-1). The Carl-Fred Sainté’s supporters had to wait until stoppage time to come back to their opponents thanks to the Jamaican player Neco Jeborie Brett, on a deflection of Devon Sandoval’s head at the entrance of the penalty area (92′, 2-2).
Thanks to this valuable point in the extra time, New Mexico United still keeps its third place in the Western Conference with 34 points, while Detroit City is fifth in the Eastern Conference with the same number of points. For their next game, New Mexico United will play on the road against New York Red Bulls B, Sunday, July 31 at 6 pm.
